ABOUT US

Guardians of a Living History.

Founded in 1982 by a group of passionate conservationists, architects, and historians, the Nepal Heritage Society (NHS) has stood as a bulwark against the erosion of our cultural identity. We believe that heritage is not just about old buildings—it is about the communities that breathe life into them.

Our Origins

In the early 1980s, as rapid urbanization began to transform the Kathmandu Valley, a collective of concerned citizens gathered to address the disappearing traditional architecture. Registered under the CDO Office Kathmandu, NHS was formed to create a platform for civil society to engage with government bodies and international agencies like UNESCO.

Over four decades, we have evolved from a small advocacy group to a recognized institution that has spearheaded the restoration of the Kaiser Mahal gardens, the documentation of the Bagmati river civilization, and numerous awareness campaigns for school children.
